We’re Official: The BPCC Is Now Incorporated

It started with a small group of Bay Park neighbors who wanted something to do on the Fourth of July. Nothing fancy, just a way for our kids to play, for parents to catch up, and to spend a day together.

We ended up in Mission Hills that day, joining their annual celebration. There was a bike parade, live music, and hot dogs. We felt that easy feeling that comes when people come together to enjoy the San Diego sun. And while we had a great time, we wondered…

Why don’t we have something like this in Bay Park?

That wonder turned into a plan. A few weeks later, we held our very first Bay Park Community Council meeting. And the seed of what we were building became clear: our neighborhood needed more simple moments that bring people together.

Bay Park has always been that kind of place. Since the 1950s, when most of the homes were first built, the neighborhood has been shaped by people who show up for each other. Post-war families moved in, kids played in the streets, and neighbors knew each other by name. And even though the city has changed a lot since then, that basic idea still matters. In a world that feels busier and more disconnected, small acts of community carry more weight than ever.

Today, the Bay Park Community Council is officially incorporated as a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Our mission is simple:

Bring neighbors together, give back, and celebrate our shared community.

We believe strong neighborhoods don’t appear on their own. They grow through small things like a wave across the street, an event you can walk to, kids meeting other kids who live nearby, and adults finding chances to talk outside of errands and obligations. Annual traditions matter too. They give families something to look forward to and help us feel connected to the place we call home.

This new chapter allows us to keep building those moments. It gives us a way to organize events, support local businesses, and organize gatherings that make Bay Park a more connected place.

Thank you for being part of this neighborhood. We’re excited for what comes next, and we hope you’ll join us by volunteering, becoming a member, or simply showing up to the next community event.

More to come soon.
